About 25 percent of babies worldwide meet the official "Rule of Threes" criteria for colic: A baby that cries for three or more hours per day, at least three times per week within a three month period.

Colic affects the entire Family...

The arrival of a new baby should be a positive experience for the entire family. But for families whose babies suffer with colic, the experience can be stressful, confusing and frustrating. The baby suffers with painful gas, bloating and stomach spasms, crying for hours at a time.

Bonding with the baby becomes very difficult. Siblings, especially under 3 years of age, do not understand the constant crying and become upset or cranky themselves. Parents are sleep-deprived, making it difficult to focus, make decisions or perform simple tasks. Relationships within the family become very strained.

Infant colic is not only a struggle for the baby and the parents, but for the entire family unit.

A little history about Colic-Ease...

Gripe water is commonly known in European homes, Asian Cultures, Canada, Australia, South America and the Caribbean Islands. Generations have used gripewater to help relieve the symptoms associated with baby colic, teething and baby's gas. Approximately 15-35 percent of all infants experience colic within their first year.

Unfortunately, most older formulas, some of the modern copies and imported gripe waters are not only manufactured and bottled in laboratories that do not follow the same regulations and guidelines as American FDA supervised and approved facilities, but they also contain ingredients considered to be undesirable by healthcare professionals and parents; these ingredients include alcohol, sucrose, artificial flavors, colors and certain non-herbal ingredients such as sodium bicarbonate and charcoal..

As a result, Colic-Ease gripe water was developed. Colic-Ease quickly became a leading, American-made, drug-free alternative therapy, using only the highest quality ingredients to effectively relieve the painful symptoms associated with infant colic, and endorsed by pediatricians, nurses, lactation consultants, midwives and doulas in the medical community.

Colic-Ease gripe water is manufactured in an American FDA-approved lab by professionals who specialize in the proper handling of liquid herbal formulations, including a testing protocol that ensures absolute product safety and effectiveness.

Colic-Ease gripe water is a highly rated, leading resource that helps relive the painful symptoms associated with infant colic, hiccups and teething gas.

Colic Pains in Infants...
- A guide for a better understanding of your baby's indigestion.

Although no one knows for sure what cause's colic, the colicky pains a baby experiences may be more manageable through natural complementary practices and alternative therapies.

Both formula fed and breast fed babies may experience colic. Factors such as caffeine in coffee, tea and soft drinks along with Theobromine found in chocolate, cross into the breast milk. Alcohol and artificial sweeteners can also be passed on and all of these may cause irritability and upset stomachs.

Although hydrochloric acid (used to facilitate digestion) is present in the baby's stomach at birth, levels of this acid remain low during the first two months after birth, causing some babies to have trouble digesting their food.

The nicotine contained in tobacco smoke has been found in babies' blood samples when inhaled from a smoker's environment. If a nursing mother smokes, her baby gets nicotine both from her breast milk and from inhaling the smoke.

A large number of colicky babies experience frequent hiccups which are caused when the diaphragm (a muscle that sits above the stomach) becomes irritated.  This irritation often occurs when an infant is sucking too quickly during feedings (and swallowing air) or drinking large amounts of breast milk or formula without burping (causing gas).  In both cases, the baby's stomach expands and pushes up, irritating the diaphragm muscle

If your baby has a heart murmur or sweats while feeding or has prolonged jaundice (more than two weeks) or frequently assumes an arching position or has green or watery stool or has any other deviation from normal, insist on a full work-up or get a second opinion before assuming that the fierce incessant crying is due to colic.

Babies with griping pains will cry inconsolably, often screaming, extending or pulling up their legs and passing gas. Their stomachs may be enlarged or distended with gas. Crying spells can occur around the clock, becoming worse in the early evening. Remember to have a professional rule out any serious medical problem, such as hernia.

Please consult with your health care professional when treating a colicky baby.

Introducing solids into the baby's diet will not improve colic. In fact, solids may cause other health issues in the newborn. Up until the age of 4 months, babies do not require solid foods.

Caring for a colicky baby is not a job for just one person. A parent should request and accept all offers of help.
